Visit the Wood Islands Lighthouse

There are many lighthouses throughout PEI, but the first one you’ll see when you arrive is the Wood Islands Lighthouse. This three storey lighthouse holds the special distinction of being one of the final three lighthouses in the province to be fully automated, as well as the last PEI lighthouse to also serve as a home for the light keeper and his family. Today, the Wood Islands Lighthouse is home to a museum on the history of lighthouses and ferry services to PEI and also features a recreation of what the keeper’s quarters and kitchen looked like in the 1950s.

Spend the Day (and the Night) at Northumberland Provincial Park

Many visitors on PEI come with the intention of camping, and we can’t say we blame them. There are many beautiful places to camp throughout PEI, including Northumberland Provincial Park. Just a few minutes from Wood Islands, this park is home to a beautiful ocean beach (complete with the famous red sand), a playground for the kids, and stunning views of the water.
