The area is named for the several small, forested islands located offshore in the Northumberland Strait, in sheltered Wood Islands Harbour. Visit the Wood Islands Lighthouse, founded in 1876, now an Interpretive Museum. And a picnic at Wood Islands Provincial Park is the perfect way to start your Island experience—ocean beach, clam digging in red sand, and a forest trail featuring varied flora and fauna native to the Island.

Be sure to stop at the excellent Visitor Information Centre. From here branch out in any direction to kick-start your Island adventure, but the Points East Coastal Drive region is a great place to start. Featuring an unforgettable dune system, the picturesque bayside community of St. Peters, as well as stunning beaches, lively ceilidhs, and the meeting of the tides at East Point. After you’re done exploring the Island, enjoy a relaxing 75-minute cruise to Caribou, Nova Scotia, and see where your next adventure takes you.
